The formulation provides Ferrous Gluconate as a source of iron together with folic acid, Vitamin B12, Vitamin C, zinc and manganese. These nutrients contribute to various normal physiological functions, including normal blood formation, energy-yielding metabolism, immune function and other essential metabolic processes, subject to the applicable nutrient claims and the amount of each nutrient supplied by the product.

Mechanism

Ferrous gluconate is an iron-containing compound used as a source of iron. Iron is an essential mineral that contributes to normal formation of red blood cells and haemoglobin and normal oxygen transport, where applicable authorised nutrient claims are satisfied. Folic acid is a form of folate. Folate contributes to normal blood formation, normal homocysteine metabolism and normal psychological function and has a role in the process of cell division, subject to applicable authorised claims. Vitamin B12 contributes to normal red blood cell formation, normal energy-yielding metabolism and normal functioning of the nervous and immune systems, where applicable to authorised nutrient claims. Vitamin C contributes to normal functioning of the immune system and protection of cells from oxidative stress. It also increases iron absorption, where the applicable conditions for the claim are met. Zinc is an essential trace mineral involved in numerous physiological processes. It contributes to normal immune function, normal metabolism of macronutrients and protection of cells from oxidative stress, subject to applicable authorised claims. Manganese is an essential trace element that contributes to normal energy-yielding metabolism, maintenance of normal bones and protection of cells from oxidative stress, where applicable authorised claims are satisfied.
